Marie Ann UmaliBy: Karen Albano

Manila, Philippines - Miss World for the year 2009 will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on December. After Marie-Ann Umali's big win in Binibining Pilipinas 2009 that gave her the right to represent the Philippines, a lot of Filipino beauty pageant fans are asking if what are the chances for the Philippines to grab the elusive Miss World title this time.

Marie Ann Umali is a Tourism graduate from the College of Saint Benilde. Besides the World crown, the proud Flight Attendant aspirant from Batangas also won the Best in Long Gown award and the Miss Photogenic award. Any significance for her upcoming World bid? Well, if you know the Miss World pageant's 'trend', a good standing in Long gown event is a big must-have to win the crown. I'm not sure though if this is consistent for the said competition, but Miss World is known for favoring elegance and good social standing.

Marie-Ann Umali must beat the remaining 109 contestants to get the crown from the reigning Miss World of 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia. Like what I've said in my Miss Universe post, a good cultural display for Umali is also a good point in winning the crown and remember, no walis tambo gown for National costume! A Maria Clara with a sexy mix is not a bad idea.
