Okay, call it the best, call it the worst of performances. But a mix between the two is what actually draws in the viewers on the recent episode of 'American Idol.'
One of the highlights featured a breathtaking display of singing duets, with Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox teaming up for their rendition of 'Falling Slowly', which specifically captivated judge Ellen Degeneres. 'You're like the new Captain and Tenille!'
On the other hand, DeWyze's 'Kiss From a Rose' failed to escape the wrath of Simon Cowell's poetic sentiments, laying it down with 'karaoke.' And adding salt to injury, Randy Jackson contributed by suggesting that DeWyze might have been better of with 'Blaze of Glory' by Bon Jovi.
Yet Bowersox had confessed that DeWyze had been her 'musical crush' since the Chicago auditions, despite outclassing him with a vigorous interpretation of 'I'm All Right,' to Cowell's delight, confirming to the contestant that she was back in the game.
There was also Casey Jones with his laid back 'Mrs. Robinson' and Mike Lynche's mind blowing 'Will You Be There' rendition, to which the latter was reminded to go full throttle to be numero uno. Lynche made that mistake in spilling the beans about making only the top three.
So it's actually not about hitting the note but a lack of confidence which the judges will not tolerate.
And come to think of it, it's Cowell they should be worried about, so skip the other judges. You get on Simon's good side, that's your big ticket, baby.
Update: Big Mike booted out on Idol last night.
