Emotions fill the Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday at the Las Vegas Hilton, with 'As The World Turns' making its exit in 3 months time.
Co-stars Michael Park and Maura West were named best actor and actress in a soap opera, one of the longest running soaps on TV. CBS canceled the show, with the last episode airing in September.
Says Park, who plays Jack Snyder in the series, "I can't think of a better way to say goodbye to a 13-year run on a 53-year-old show." The actor also gave mention to the emotional scene when the team previously filmed its last episode last week, praying that others won't have to go through the same ordeal.
West was accompanied by her sobbing daughter onstage, to celebrate the sweep in acting awards the show has raked in.
Best supporting actress in a drama, went to another cast member, Julie Pinson.
Meanwhile, other notable winners of the night were, 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' which was named best entertainment talk show, despite the fact that both DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey failed to submit their names for best talk show host, with the award going to Winfrey protege Dr. Mehmet Oz for the first year of 'The Dr. Oz Show.'
Then best game show went to Discovery's 'Cash Cab' for the third time in a row.
Best soap opera for the second year in a row went to CBS 'The Bold and The Beautiful,' a category where 'As The World Turns' wasn't nominated in.
Jay MCgraw edged out father Dr. Phil McGraw's 'Dr. Phil' in the best informative talk show category, with 'The Doctors.'
Best supporting actor in a daytime drama went to Billy Miller of CBS 'The Young and the Restless,' and ABC's 'General Hospital' star Julie Berman bagged her second straight Emmy as outstanding younger actress in a soap. Best younger actor was awarded to Drew Tyler Bell of CBS 'The Bold & The Beautiful.'
Special tribute was given to Dick Clark and his long-running musical countdown show 'American Bandstand,' while 'All My Cildren' creator Agnes Nixon, was awarded a lifetime achievement award by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Nixon was also a noted writer for other daytime dramas, including 'Guiding Light' and 'As The World Turns.'
Congratulations to all winners, especially Ellen DeGeneres. You rock, girl!
