Anoop Desai (born December 20, 1986) is a finalist on the eighth season of American Idol. Although Idol is known for their top 12, Desai was an additional contestant to the competition after the four judges could not decide between him and contestant Matt Giraud, both were admitted to the top 13.
He has credited his decision to audition for American Idol to the passing of a friend, Eve Carson who was murdered. During the broadcast of the wild card round on March 5, 2009, he gave a "shout out" to his alma mater and mentioned Eve as it was the one year anniversary of her death.
During his freshman year of college at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he auditioned and was accepted as a member of the Clef Hangers, a long-standing male a capella group. His senior year, Desai served as the group's president. Desai rose to national fame with his participation in the eight season of American Idol. On August 8, 2008 he auditioned in Kansas City, Missouri.
