Quezon City, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao's lawyer, Franklin Gacal called for a press conference to clarify a lot [and we mean a lot] of speculations circulating all media portals after the the issue of Pacquiao's Television rights erupted the very peaceful sports [and showbiz] world. It was first reported by Inquirer that Pacquiao was offered by ABS-CBN to 'cross-fence' and to give them the television rights to air his upcoming fights in exchange of the network's support for his bid in the upcoming 2010 Elections in Saranggani Island.
According to Pacquiao's lawyer, it was Miss Dyan Castillejo who approached Pacquiao with the idea to air the fight with Ricky Hatton on their station. “Pacquiao was made to believe by the lawyer of ABS-CBN that there was a violation on the part of Solar which convinced him to entertain the idea of transferring the TV rights to ABS-CBN.” Gacal added.
ABS-CBN still stand with their first official statement that it was Manny Pacquiao who approached them. ABS-CBN's honcho Gabby Lopez said, "The promotion, and reach of ABS is far better than anything he has seen in GMA in the last year. That is the true reason why he wanted to move. He rescinded his contract. He decided to join us. The situation became complicated. All I can say is, we acted in an ethical manner. We did not violate any restrictions in the embargo. There is no deal on the politics. Now he has decided to go back to GMA, let's just support him and wish him well."[translated to English]
Manny Pacquiao also asked the the public, especially his fans to forget the issue and still continue to support him with his fight with the British guy.
