California - After the very controversial split with his wife, and the publicized divorce paper filed -- Mel Gibson was spotted by the press, smiling and obviously very happy.

"Mel has been single for almost three years and it's nice to see him getting out and enjoying himself," his rep tells People.com exclusively. "They came in quietly and as under-the-radar as they could and they were pretty low-key," says a source. "Mel seemed very comfortable." his rep added, according to People.

The 53 year old actor-director stepped out with the 39 year old singer from Russia named Oksana Grigorieva. The newly-publicized couple held hands as they walked the carpet of "happy happy" for a screening at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
