Joe Frazier Thrilla in ManilaBy: Erwin Valdez
Los Angeles, California - Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali's Thrilla in Manila is still a hot property. Last October 1, 1975 when Frazier and Ali's third and final bout in the boxing ring took place at the Araneta Colesium in Quezon City, Philippines. As a Filipino, I'm very proud that my country played a major role in boxing history books. According to New York Times article written by Joe Sexton, the "Thrilla still continues to thrill" as the top cable channel in USA, HBO will air a documentary with the same title, directed by John Dower.

If they say Ali and Frazier's name, Manila is always connected. A lot of sports analyst says that Thrilla in Manila is one of the greatest fights of 20th Century boxing. Who would have thought that the country where it happened will produce the pound for pound king today, Manny Pacquiao.

Even the legendary boxing movie "Rocky", got its inspiration from Ali and Frazier's third bout. And still after three decades, the Thrilla in Manila still inspires and dominates the heart of boxing fans, and heroes alike. Even ESPN's "SportsCentury" think that Thrilla was the 5th greatest sporting event of all time.
