California - X-Men flick prequel - "Wolverine" grabbed the US summer box office list with an opening day gross of $35 million from almost 4,100 cinemas nationwide. Hugh Jackman's flick ranked second on overall "X-Men" flicks based on opening day gross performance, behind "X-Men: The last stand" with $45.1 million gross.
With the absence of the notable character Storm played by Halle Berry, Jackman's "Wolverine" opening gross came safely ahead of the second installment "X2: X-Men United" which opened on May 2003 with $31 million, but weaker if compared to Robert Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man" with an opening day gross of $38.7 million.
Beyonce's cat fight flick "Obsessed" landed third with $4.2 million, while Warner Bros' romantic-comedy flick "Ghost of Girlfriend's Past" landed 2nd with $5.6 million. Zac Efron's "17 Again" in mediocre 4th with $2 million, while Downey Jr. and Foxx's "The Soloist" grabbed the 5th spot with $1.7 million on its 8th day of showing.
