Morrissey has been hospitalized after collapsing on stage last night (24.10.09). The 50-year-old singer had appeared on stage at the Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon, England, looking "drawn" and appeared in pain as he struggled to make it through this first song, a rendition of his former band The Smiths' classic hit 'This Charming Man', before slumping to his knees. Two members of his band rushed over to his aid and dragged him off stage, swiftly followed by the other musicians.

It had initially been believed he would return to the stage, but 30 minutes later fans were told the singer had "left the building" as he was "seriously ill" and had been suffering with breathing difficulties. A spokesperson for the Great Western Ambulance Service confirmed the 50-year-old star had been taken to hospital but said his condition is not thought to be life threatening. She said last night: "Just after 9pm we got a call to a 50-year-old man who was reported to be suffering from respiratory problems and was unconscious. "When paramedics arrived they found a conscious patient who was not feeling well at all. "They made an initial assessment and took him to the Great Western Hospital for further assessment." A hospital spokesperson said the singer - whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey - is in a stable condition. The singer, who is in the middle of a world tour, has already cancelled a string of performances this year due to unspecified illness.
