Idol sensation Crystal Bowersox confessed that she never considered herself to be the frontrunner in this season's 'American Idol' and was simply satisfied to have gotten this far in the contest.

"I was just happy to get past the stadium and the next week and the next. You never know what's going to happen in a competition like this, and it's really up to the voting public," the 24-year-old star and single mother revealed to Reality TV World during a Friday media conference call.

Bowersox adds, "My approach to the whole thing was just to remain true to who I am as a person and an artist and just give my best personal performance each week and whatever the outcome was I was prepared to accept and embrace and move forward. Coming in second is an amazing feat in itself. This whole thing has just been an amazing journey."

The musician in fact, told reporters that she had a strong gut feel that rival Lee DeWyze was going to emerge victorious and associated with that was an overwhelming sense of peace and acceptance.

"Just some strange feeling in me, I knew that Lee was going to win."

And while DeWyze may be the third straight male to claim the title, Idol judges constantly gave emphasis to the female competitors even before the beginning of the ninth season. Bowersox however, disagreed.

"I think that American Idol is a competition in a certain way that it really is up to the voting public. Any predictions made at the beginning of the season for a female winner is not possible to know," she comments.

With her recent split from beau Tony Kusian which, according to her was a mutual decision, she has this to say of her ex flame.

"Tony's been my rock through all of this," she disclosed to reporters. "He's been there for me and he's been amazing. I've got a great amount of respect and love for him."

Bowersox also shared with the press that she believes she has handled competing on the show very well as a single mom. She faces every day the same way any other does with love and joy that comes with having a child in her life. In addition, she says her young son hasn't a clue on what mommy's been up to.

"I'm sure he doesn't grasp it, he's 16 months. His favorite word is 'awesome' right now. He's having a good time, he's well taken care of. He's just a happy little guy."

There's also been much hype lately on who will replace sharp-tongued Simon Cowell, although Bowersox feels that it's not possible.

"Simon is such as epic figure, replace is not a good word for me. I think Simon is irreplaceable in a sense that he's Simon. He's such a figure," she says, and also wishes the best of luck to the much adored Brit's successor.

And the musician continues to reap the fruits of all the blood, sweat and tears she has poured into her career. Recently, she has just inked record deals with RCA and 19 recordings Limited. And this may only be the beginning of even bigger things to come.

A winner in my book in any angle you put it.
