Marvel's metallic superhero explodes to an impressive start overseas with figures of $100.2 million at the box office.
This is a week prior to the North America launch of the summer movie season, where 'Iron Man 2' premieres on Friday in the United States and Canada, a market which gave the new 'Nightmare on Elm Street' its no. 1 spot last week with $32.2 million.
The president of tracking firm Hollywood.com Box office, Paul Dergarabedian, is expecting the Marvel wonder rake in more than an estimated $120 million when it opens in Canada and the States.
Dergarabedian says people loved the first film so they'll definitely line up for the second one. 'It should be one of the biggest opening weekends of all time.'
The sequel showed its strength particularly in the UK, where it made $12.2 million, and South Korea, where it netted in $10.8 million.
The first sequel, 'Iron man' had earned around $98.6 million in U.S. and Canada during its 2008 debut. It had made a total of $585 million globally at the box office.
Way to go, Marvel!
