It might be possible that Robin Hood does have a pinch of Irish roots in him, according to Russell Crowe who's ticked off by some host's comment on his accent.

The 'Gladiator' star, who's currently promoting his latest film 'Robin Hood' at the Cannes Film Festival, was caught offguard when he recieved a 'sniper remark' from host Mark Lawson during a recent BBC interview about his Robin Hood accent sounding Irish.

"You've got dead ears mate, seriously dead ears if you think there's an Irish accent," Crowe snapped.

TV host Lawson attempted to sway away from the topic by asking other questions, but the Aussie actor steered its direction back to the way it was.

"I'm a little dumbfounded you could possibly find any Irish in that character. That's kind of ridiculous but it's your show," says Crowe.

And the tension began to mount when Lawson asked Crowe if the accent was supposed to be Northern English.

"No, I was going for an Italian," he said. "Missed it? F--k me."

Yet the icing on the cake would have to be when the host asked Crowe if he wanted to say his famous line from the 'Gladiator,' which goes like: "I'll take my revenge in this life or the next." Without a word, the actor stormed out of the interview, muttering, "I don't get the Irish thing by the way. I don't get it at all."

What Crowe actually wanted to achieve, is his character sounding as if he was from the Yorkshire region of Britain, scholars claim the legend may have once lived, instead of Nottingham, where he was always based according to legend.

Look on the bright side mate, Kevin Costner didn't do much justice in that aspect, either. His was the Robin Hood from Texas.
