John Isner: a quick loss following record match win!
By: Rumer Certeza
The longest tennis match in history would also be followed by the shortest match at this year's Wimbledon!
John Isner, who was a picture of immortality in his recent marathon win against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut lasting 11 hours and 5 minutes, was a far cry in the next match, as the American succumbed to Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker in a quick fashion, lasting just 74 minutes.
It was evident that Isner was extremely pooped, and played without skin on his toes. The American's record 112 aces against Mahut is a stark contrast in his next, where he served zero and against the 21-year old Bakker. That's to go along with 32 unforced errors.
The Dutchman would hand Isner his loss at the latter's third match point, concluding the game at 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.
This prompted the American to withdraw from his first-round doubles match with partner Sam Querry due to a toe injury.
Yet it hardly raised eyebrows as Isner just came from a gruelling, infinite battle which broke tennis records here and there. The American more than proved himself.
You'll get it back buddy. I mean, you're not the man of steel!
