Kal Penn was robbed at gunpoint, but the thief forgot all about the actor's ties with the big 'O.'

Yup, Penn, of HAROLD AND KUMAR fame, is currently a member of President Obama's staff, serving as the Associate Director in the office of Public Engagement. It turns out that the unfortunate criminal didn't just take the actor's wallet, but his two cell phones - one of which belongs to the U.S. government.

So you have the scenario right now where the Secret Service is coordinating efforts with the D.C. Metro Police Department in hunting for the bad guy. You can run, but you can't hide, buddy.

According to sources, Penn had contacted White House communications, who discontinued service on the stolen phone immediately. The actor was issued a new cell afterwards.

It sure pays to know people in high places.
