Michael Douglas' son, 31-year old Cameron Douglas, was handed down a 5 year sentence on Tuesday in a Federal District Court in Manhattan, for drug related charges.

The younger Douglas, an aspiring actor and D.J., has pleaded guilty this January to charges involving the distribution of large quantities of cocaine and methamphetamines, over a period of 3 years, as well as charges of heroin possession, recently handed down while he was on house arrest awaiting trial.

Michael Douglas, who wore a black suit with hair combed back was present at court with ex-wife Diandra Douglas during the sentencing of their son.

As described by relatives letters addressed to judges, Cameron was a lonely, troubled child whose parents were hardly present or in heavy dispute, turning to drugs at a tender age of 13. Mr. Douglas lawyer, Nicholas M. De Feis, stated that his client was 'an unemployed addict with a five-time-a-day heroin habit,' at the time of his house arrest.

The elder Douglas, 65, and Oscar winner, says that he cherished his weekly visits with his son at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan, adding in a letter to Judge Berman, that he loves his son but not blind to his actions and believes that this adversity will bring out a positive citizen.
