Just as we thought social networking guru Ashton Guru would reign supreme pops Britney Spears out of nowhere to dethrone him.

It's official, Britney Spears tops the list of having the most Twitter followers, snatching the crown away from former leader Ashton Kutcher. The 'Toxic' popstar has garnered a total of 4,995,768 followers, edging out Demi Moore's actor hubby with 4,944,221.

Britney posted, "Wow!!!! #1 on Twitter. Thank you! Tweet me some questions this morning! xoxo -Brit."

Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher couldn't care less after hearing about the big news.

"I don't care," the actor tweeted while at a banquet for his upcoming movie, 'Killers.' Spears, on the other hand was oozing with excitement, personally thanking fans on her Twitter account.

"This is amazing! I love you all! I better get busy writing 4,947,608 thank you notes! U guys make me sooo happy! -Brit," she wrote.

The pop princess had it coming. In recent weeks, it even appeared that Spears would outnumber Kutcher. In fact, 64 percent of PEOPLE.com readers were delighted that the singer was catching up with the actor.

No congratulatory remarks to the Twitter queen, Ashton?
