Ringo Starr Celebrates His 70th Birthday! Photo: Reuters |
Righty! Mr. Starr's looking a good two decades younger on his birthday bash held at Times Square, and he'll be jamming the scene tonight at Radio City Music Hall with a little helping hand from his buddies, his 'All-Star Band.'
Asked by CBS news senior business correspondent Anthony Mason what the best part was about being a musician, the legend simply replied, "Playing with other bands." And at 70, there's still no signs of that grand exit from the music scene, not just yet. I agree, age isn't a factor, buddy.
"Well you know musicians are in a great place 'cause they can go 'till they drop,' Ringo adds. Besides his stint with the popular UK quartet, the man has had solo hits as well, with notable US chart toppers such as 'It don't come easy' and 'Back off Boogaloo' just to name a few.
Ringo, who got his name from all the rings on his fingers, was chosen as a replacement drummer by a popular Liverpool band composed of Paul, John and George back in 1962, and the rest was larger-than-life history for the fabulous four.
The musician even described himself during those days as "your basic offbeat drummer" eventually quit the band when he couldn't stomach anymore of the members constant squabbles. But after he left, Paul McCartney sent him a postcard which read: "you are the greatest drummer in the world. Really."
Rockers never grow old. Instead they gain more soul. Make a wish, Ringo!
