A foot surgery for Serena Williams?

Ouch! American tennis sensation Serena Williams injured her foot badly and it wasn't from playing tennis. Double ouch!!


Yup. Venus William's younger sister will have to go under the knife, that is, have surgery done on her right foot which she injured after cutting it on a broken glass at a restaurant. That restaurant owner's future sure looks dim!

These painful developments also means that Serena will miss out on tournaments in Montreal, Cincinnati and Istanbul, which will also affect her participation in the US Open 2010 practice sessions which commences on August 20.


The curvy tennis superstar is currently ranked World's numero uno in the WTA rankings and has bagged a total of 13 singles titles, 12 women's doubles titles and 2 mixed titles to top it off. Not to mention her triumph in the 2010 Wimbledon Championship title. She also recently received an ESPY award in the Best Female Tennis Player category.


Serena is a mixture of dismay and gratitude, saying, "I'm so upset I won't be able to play in the upcoming events. Thank you for all your support. I can't wait to get back on the courts."
