Pictures beats Steve Carell's all-evil-and-funny animated movie 'Despicable Me'. The said 3D offering slipped to number 2 with an estimated $32 million.

'Inception' is written, produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. Development of Inception began roughly ten years before the film's actual release when Nolan wrote an 80-page treatment about dream-stealers, according to Wikipedia.
