Dixie Carter, known for her role as an outspoken liberal on TV sitcom's 'Designing Women' and an Emmy nominee for her guest role on 'Desperate Housewives' has passed away at age 70, according to TV gossip show 'Entertainment Tonight.'
As of now, details have yet to be disclosed on the cause of death, as well as time and place.
Actor and husband Hal Holbook, who has been married to Dixie since 1984, is devastated over the loss. 'This has been a terrible blow to our family', he was quoted as telling ET. He adds, 'we would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy.'
The late actress has also made an appearance in the 80's popular sitcom 'Different Strokes' as the wife of Conrad Bain's character Philip Drummond. However, after the switch of networks, her role was assumed by Mary Ann Mobley.
Carter has two daughters Mary Dixie and Ginna, from her previous marriage. The cause of death of the matron of 'Designing Women' has not been released.
